Income tax calculator for salaried India

Income tax on salary is a pipeline, not a percentage: slab rates apply to taxable income after deductions, then rebate, surcharge, and cess adjust the result. This platform computes the whole pipeline and shows every step.

Compute my income tax

What it means

For FY 2026-27, the new regime taxes income above ₹4L in rising slabs (5% to 30% above ₹24L) after a ₹75,000 standard deduction, with a Section 87A rebate zeroing tax up to ₹12L taxable income. The old regime starts at ₹2.5L with the full deduction menu. A 4% health & education cess applies to the tax in both.

The formula

Tax = Slabs(taxable income) − rebate + surcharge, then × 1.04 cess

Taxable income is gross salary minus the standard deduction and, in the old regime, exemptions like HRA and Chapter VI-A deductions. Surcharge applies above ₹50L total income, with marginal relief at each threshold.

Worked example

  • ₹20L CTC, new regime, standard structure: taxable ≈ ₹17.9L.
  • Slab tax ≈ ₹1.58L; no rebate at this income; cess adds 4%.
  • Total ≈ ₹1.64L for the year — the calculator prints the exact paisa.

How to use it

  1. 1Enter your CTC. The engine derives gross and taxable income from your structure.
  2. 2Pick the regime. Both are computed; the compare page shows them side by side.
  3. 3Read the computation sheet. Slab by slab, rebate, surcharge, and cess — fully audited.
