Salary hike & growth calculator
A hike is one year; a trajectory is a career. The career simulator runs thousands of paths over your increments, promotion timing, and job switches — and translates the median path into actual monthly take-home at each milestone.
Simulate my salary growthWhat it means
Salary growth compounds from three sources: annual increments (typically 6–10%), promotions (12–20% bumps every 3–4 years), and job switches (20–30% premiums). Small differences compound dramatically over a decade.
The formula
CTC(n) = CTC(0) × Π(1 + increment) × Π(1 + bump) × Π(1 + premium)
Each year applies an increment; promotion years add a bump; switch years add a premium and reset the promotion clock. The simulator samples increment ranges and promotion timing to produce a realistic band, not a single guess.
Worked example
- ₹20L today, typical outlook, no switches: median ≈ 2.2× in 10 years.
- Same person switching every 3 years: the median climbs well past 3×.
- The simulator shows P10–P90 bands so you see the range, not just the average.
How to use it
- 1Set your situation. Years in organization and since your last promotion — durations only.
- 2Choose an outlook. Conservative, typical, or ambitious parameter sets, all visible.
- 3Read milestones in take-home. Median CTCs at years 5 and 10 run through the real tax pipeline.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good salary hike in India?
Typical annual increments run 6–10%; promotions add 12–20%; switching employers commonly yields 20–30%. A single number matters less than the compounding pattern over years.
How much does job switching really add?
At a 25% premium every 3 years versus staying put, the 10-year median CTC is typically 40–60% higher — the simulator quantifies it for your numbers and outlook.
Does a hike change my in-hand proportionally?
No — tax is progressive, so in-hand grows slightly slower than CTC as you cross slab and surcharge thresholds. Milestones here are shown in take-home for that reason.
